A new program to help businesses impacted by major city construction will be tested on Thorndon Quay starting in early November.
Starting in early November, a new pilot program will offer microgrants up to $1,500 to support businesses affected by significant city construction on Thorndon Quay.
Councillor Teri O’Neill, Chair of the Social, Cultural, and Economic Committee, acknowledges the tough times many businesses are experiencing. “We know it’s a challenging period for Wellington businesses, and even small supports can make a big difference. These microgrants are a practical way to provide additional help for our business community.”
The microgrants are part of a larger support package from the Council, which includes training through WellingtonNZ, “open for business” signage, and promoting Thorndon Quay as a shopping destination. “Wellingtonians have a deep love for their local businesses, and this support can be used for various activities like digital marketing, new signage, beautification projects, and staff wellbeing initiatives.”
The pilot program is inspired by similar initiatives in Auckland and aims to implement lessons learned from their experiences. The program will be open for applications starting Monday, 4 November.
