Why Was the Match Cancelled?
Persistent rain over the Greater Noida region left the ground unplayable, despite the best efforts of the ground staff. The outfield remained too wet and unsafe, making it impossible to start the match.
Why Is This Rare?
Such cancellations are extremely rare in Test cricket. The last instance was in December 1998, when New Zealand’s Test against India in Dunedin was abandoned due to rain. Only eight matches in the history of Test cricket have faced this fate.
