September 2025 In a move to reignite the tourism heartbeat of the Nelson Tasman region, the New Zealand Government has announced a $50,000 funding package aimed at domestic tourism marketing. The initiative comes in response to the economic setbacks caused by severe weather and flooding earlier this year.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Hon Louise Upston confirmed the funding, emphasizing its role in helping local businesses recover from a wave of cancellations and dwindling visitor numbers. A recent survey revealed that nearly 70% of tourism and hospitality operators in the region experienced revenue losses due to the June and July weather events.
“Nelson Tasman is open for business,” Upston declared, encouraging Kiwis to rediscover the region’s natural beauty and vibrant hospitality.
What the Funding Will Do
The $50K injection will fuel a domestic marketing campaign showcasing the region’s attractions—from Abel Tasman’s golden beaches to the artisan food and wine trails that define the local experience. The campaign aims to:
- Rebuild visitor confidence
- Drive bookings for spring and summer
- Support jobs and small businesses in the region
