At the prestigious Egmont Palace in Brussels, diplomatic history was made as NATO and European Union leaders gathered for a high-level meeting on May 28, 2025. Hosted by NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska and Delphine Pronk, Chair of the EU’s Political and Security Committee, the summit brought together senior political and military officials from all NATO and EU member states.

The discussion centered on Ukraine, a nation that has faced relentless challenges following Russia’s full-scale invasion. Over the past years, NATO and the EU have stood firmly as Ukraine’s strongest allies, supplying military, financial, and humanitarian aid to bolster its defenses. This meeting reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, ensuring continued support amid evolving security threats.

A significant part of the discussion highlighted NATO’s Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU), which coordinates aid and military training to enhance Ukraine’s combat readiness. Additionally, the Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC) in Poland serves as a strategic hub for processing lessons learned on the battlefield, reinforcing Ukraine’s ability to adapt and innovate in warfare.

The European Union’s Military Assistance Mission has also played a crucial role, training more than 75,000 Ukrainian troops, a contribution that has had an undeniable impact on frontline operations. NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) and NATO Representation to Ukraine (NRU) further solidify its deep engagement in ensuring Ukraine’s security and resilience.
