Rising Czech talent Jakub Mensik will be back in Auckland this summer, with the 20‑year‑old confirming his place in the upcoming ASB Classic. Now the youngest player inside the world’s top 20, Mensik has been one of the fastest climbers on the ATP Tour this season and is expected to draw strong support at the Manuka Doctor Arena.
Mensik impressed Kiwi fans earlier in the year with standout wins over former top‑10 player Pablo Carreño Busta and tournament favourite Ben Shelton, edging the American in a thrilling three‑set battle before bowing out in a tight quarterfinal.
He has since enjoyed a breakout season, highlighted by his first Masters 1000 title in Miami, where he defeated childhood idol Novak Djokovic in two tiebreak sets — a victory he says transformed his confidence and consistency.
ASB Classic Tournament Director Nicolas Lamperin says the event is delighted to welcome Mensik back, praising his powerful serve, strong backhand, and natural star quality. With a 31–19 record this season and a career‑high ranking of No.16, Mensik arrives in Auckland as one of the most exciting young names in men’s tennis.
The Czech player, who began playing at age five and rose quickly through the junior and Challenger levels, says he’s eager to return to New Zealand after feeling warmly received by fans last year. He views the tournament as an ideal lead‑in to Melbourne and is looking forward to experiencing more of the country’s scenery and hospitality.
Organisers are finalising additional player announcements, with Mensik’s return already adding major appeal to the 2026 field.
