Foreign Minister Winston Peters Concludes Successful Visit to Bangkok
Foreign Minister Hon Winston Peters has wrapped up a productive series of engagements in Bangkok, where he met with key Thai political and business leaders. “Thailand is a crucial economic and security partner for New Zealand. We are committed to elevating our relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’ by 2026,” Peters stated.
High-level interactions between the two nations are essential for advancing this goal. Consequently, both countries have agreed to re-establish regular and substantial Foreign Minister consultations. “We look forward to welcoming Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa to New Zealand for the inaugural session of these consultations in the coming months,” Peters added.
During his time in Thailand, Peters also held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, as well as other Thai political and business leaders. He also met with New Zealand alumni and witnessed the signing of three Memorandums of Understanding between New Zealand and Thai businesses.
Thailand marks the seventh ASEAN member country that Peters has visited this year, underscoring New Zealand’s commitment to strengthening ties within the region.
Peters is now en route to Jakarta, where he will represent New Zealand at the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
