In a landmark moment for science and gender equity, eleven exceptional women from Southeast Asia and Timor-Leste have been awarded full scholarships to pursue advanced STEM degrees in the United Kingdom as part of the 2025 ASEAN–UK SAGE Women in STEM Fellowship.
The recipients, chosen from hundreds of applicants across the ASEAN region, will begin their postgraduate studies this September at either the University of Warwick or the University of Manchester. Their fields of study span cutting-edge disciplines including cybersecurity, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and humanitarian engineering.
This initiative, jointly supported by the UK Government and the British Council, aims to close the gender gap in science and technology by empowering future female leaders in innovation. The program not only funds tuition and living expenses but also fosters cross-cultural collaboration and leadership development.
As these scholars prepare to embark on their academic journey, they carry with them the hopes of inspiring a new generation of women to lead transformative change in STEM across Southeast Asia.
