Citizens witnessed record numbers of potholes affecting highways nationwide in their daily lives. The government promised change to New Zealanders and the freight sector, and it is delivering on that promise.
To tackle the pothole problem, the government established a $3.9 billion Pothole Prevention Activity Class over three years. This fund is specifically allocated for resealing, rehabilitation, and drainage maintenance works to ensure the money is used entirely for preventing potholes. The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) is now executing a significant program of works, including a record increase in road rehabilitation, which involves rebuilding entire sections of road rather than just resealing.
