Associate Health Minister David Seymour is pleased with Pharmac’s progress in increasing medicine availability for Kiwis, thanks to the Government’s largest-ever investment in Pharmac.
Pharmac, while operating independently, must adhere to the Government’s budget constraints. When the current Government took office, Pharmac faced a $1.7 billion funding gap with no new funds for medicine access. To address this, the Government allocated Pharmac a record $6.294 billion over four years to secure better deals for medicines.
This investment is already yielding results, with new cancer drugs becoming available. From November 1, 2024, around 380 people will benefit from the full funding of Cetuximab for certain types of bowel cancer. This marks a significant step forward in expanding treatment options for patients and their families.
